A collaborative shoot with dear friend and artist Sachi Pirola, in Mungo National Park, Australia. An extension of my graduate collection ‘Here and There, Then and Now’ through image.
An ode to my family’s journey of migration from China to Australia. I visualise diaspora through motifs of basketry and the metaphor of seeds scattering. Gemstones and pearls play the role of seeds. Held through different weaving and wrapping methods, gemstones are celebrated through my experimental approach to stone setting. Dispersed from their homeland, the journey of the seed is like the migration of people: the carrying of belongings, memory and a longing for home.
