Legacy
Louis Vuitton Fine Jewellery Project
Delving into the story of Joey’s Hakka lineage, Legacy is a story of diaspora, migration and displacement through looking at ways in which children were carried in journeys of necessity. Intertwining the traditional use of basketry with fabric wrapping in the carrying of a child, the pieces take form in carefully wrapped sapphires and woven structures which encase various bodily forms. Weaving methods of carrying with the intimacy between parent and child, The Legacy Collection symbolises the diasporic experience in its many travelled paths throughout the world.
Legacy features three designs represented through traditional gouache painting. With its mesmerising hues of blue, green and yellow, the Australian parti sapphire is the hero gemstone of Legacy. The colours of the collection take inspiration from Australian Impressionist painting ‘Lost’ (1886) by Frederick McCubbin.
